In 2020, the brand has teamed up with 18 Inuit designers from four Inuit regions in the country - Inuvialuit, Nunatsiavut, Nunavut and Nunavik - to create a custom capsule collection of 90 parkas. Each of the www.canadagoosesaler.com designs has been made using traditional skills and design techniques combined with Canada Goose's premium fabrics.
On why the brand wanted to design this piece for Toronto, Karuna Scheinfeld, the VP of Design at Canada Goose, said, "Canada Goose is a Canadian brand, but its home town is Toronto. To this day, Canada Goose continues to proudly call Toronto home and still designs, manufactures and sells products in this Canada Goose Coats global hub, so it felt natural that we would create a jacket as an homage to our home town. When we decided to make the Toronto Jacket, the first thing we did was interview Dani Reiss, born and bred Torontonian, our CEO and third generation of the CG founding family.
As far as the comparison to the Goose, I like the pockets on the Goose because they are big and slanted and can hold a lot. But every time since I got my Trillium, I miss the breast pockets. So it's a give and take. I guess it would be weird to have four slanted pockets, but that would be my wish!
With a team that included PBI chief scientist Steven C. Amstrup, Upton explored the Arctic tundra around Churchill both on the ground in a state - of - the - art Tundra Buggy and in the air via a helicopter ride that led to some prime bear spotting. "I even saw a mama bear and her cub!" says Upton. "To be able to visit such a remote place and see them in their natural habitat is something I hope everyone can experience at least once in their lives."
