Cabo San Lucas is a beautiful, sunny destination that is perfect for a beach vacation. However, there are some things to be aware of before you travel there for an all-inclusive vacation in Mexico

Here are a few tips on how to stay safe during your trip to Cabo:

  1. Avoid traveling during the hurricane season (June-November).

This is when most of the tropical storms and hurricanes occur in the area. During the months of June to November in Cabo,  the water is usually very rough and there is a higher risk of rip currents. Besides,  hurricanes can cause extensive damage to the infrastructure and disrupt travel plans. The best time to visit Cabo is during the winter months (December-February) when the weather is dry and sunny.

  1. Don’t drink tap water.

The tap water in Mexico is not safe to drink. Stick to bottled water for brushing your teeth and drinking. You can also get ice from your all-inclusive Cabo online resort which uses safe water. At Villa Del Palmar Beach Resort and Spa,  we have a 5-stage water filtration and purification system to make sure the ice and water served at our restaurants and rooms are of the highest quality.

  1. Do not leave your belongings unattended on the beach.

The beaches in Cabo are lovely, but unfortunately, they are also popular spots for thieves. If you take valuables to the beach with you, make sure to keep them close by and in a safe place. Do not leave your belongings unguarded while you go for a swim.

  1. Be aware of your surroundings when walking around at night.

Like any tourist destination, there are areas in Cabo that are safer than others. Avoid walking alone at night in deserted or poorly lit areas. If possible, take a taxi instead.  You must also be cautious of your belongings when walking around, as pickpockets are known to operate in crowded areas.

  1. Do not accept rides from strangers.

There have been reports of visitors being drugged and robbed after getting into cars with strangers. If you need a ride, only take licensed taxis or cabs. It is best to call taxi service in advance and request a pick-up. You can also ask your all-inclusive resort in Mexico to provide cab services to you such as those provided at Villa Del Palmar Beach Resort and Spa.

  1. Keep your money and valuables safe.

When traveling, it’s always important to take precautions with your money and valuables. Keep your cash and credit cards in a secure place, such as a money belt or hidden pocket. Be cautious when withdrawing money from ATMs. Only use machines that are located in well-lit, busy areas. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash with you.  Avoid carrying all your valuables with you when exploring the town. Leave unnecessary items, such as jewelry, in the safe at Villa Del Palmar Beach Resort and Spa during your all-inclusive vacation in Mexico.

  1. Be aware of your surroundings.

Cabo is a popular tourist destination, which means that there can be anti-social elements that may target tourists. Pay attention to your belongings and don’t leave them unguarded in public places. Be cautious when walking around at night and don’t accept rides from strangers.

  1. Do not attempt to purchase illegal or forbidden articles/ substances.

Cabo is located very close to the US border and as a result, there are stricter laws in place regarding illegal substances. Do not attempt to purchase or bring illegal articles or substances into the country. In addition, there are certain foods that are not allowed to be brought into Mexico, and possession of even small amounts can lead to serious jail time. If you are caught with such substances or articles, you will be subject to arrest and detention.

  1. Obey all posted signs and warnings.

There are many areas in Cabo that are not safe for swimming, due to strong currents or dangerous wildlife. Be sure to obey all posted signs and warnings. If you are unsure about the safety of an area, ask a lifeguard or staff member at your resort.

  1. Do not engage in any illegal activities.

This should go without saying, but do not engage in any illegal activities while in Cabo. This includes, but is not limited to, drug use, theft, and vandalism. If you are caught breaking the law, you will be subject to arrest and detention.
